2009 CANADA YOUTH TAIKO STUDY TO JAPAN
2009 CANADA’S YOUTH TAIKO GROUP’S FIRST CULTURAL STUDY TO JAPAN
Chibi Taiko is the first children's taiko (traditional Japanese drumming) group established in Canada.
As one of the Chibi Taiko parents and member of their executive for 10 years, Linda had a dream to expose these young Canadians to the foundation of taiko culture in Japan one day.
In July 2009, Onomichi leaders and Linda coordinated a cultural program that enabled 13 young Canadian drummers spend 10 days with a traditional Japanese taiko group in Onomichi, Hiroshimaken.
The Canadians were immersed in cultural workshops of Noh theatre, ikebana, shodou, and tea ceremony to supplement their drumming practises with Onomichi's Betchar Daiko group.
Their experience is documented in the video, ‘Ishizue’.
July 2018, Chibi Taiko plans plans to repeat this program with a possible return to Onomichi to introduce their newest members to Japanese culture.
